The Experience Nine to Five web site project was created for Adams County High School Students to find and register for on-site training courses hosted at local businesses and organizations. The purpose of this educational program was to provide students with career and job exposure.
The e9to5.org Drupal site was an inherited project. We were hired to fix bugs, create readable reports, fix the student registration and checkout systems, redesign the calendar and create a new attendance reporting system.
We also moved the site to a virtual private server, implemented Memcache for enterprise level performance, configured automated backups, and provided web site monitoring services. Moving from shared hosting has increased performance, enhanced the level of security and improved reliability.
The initial challenge was that Drupal core and contributed modules had multiple and direct code modifications that were preventing the security updates from being applied without losing the added functionality. These modifications had to be rewritten and properly moved into custom modules and security updates had to be applied before we could move forward with further development.
After code cleanup, we created new sales and registration reports, fixed the student registration system and payment processing. The careers page along with the course catalog pages were redesigned to use Drupal components for more productive content management. A snazzy new menu was added to nicely tie the course catalog together. This simple addition makes it much more easy to browse and find courses.
In general the theme was not modified much but a few bugs were fixed. Including a JavaScript bug on the first splash greeting page.
